Moving to Switzerland

well, I've got some exciting news for you.
I got a job! Which seems like nothing short of a miracle to me. Like I told you last time around... I was headed for 2 job interviews in Switzerland and one of them brought results. Actually both of them did, but after the interviews I had to let them know whether I wanted the job or not - which meant I had to choose one. Naturally I picked the one that needed a lot longer to respond which in turn caused some nervous days for me.
But God is thankfully still God :-) and two days ago I got the confirmation from the place that I had chosen. I am starting December 8th - only two weeks from tomorrow.

The job is as a receptionist at a childrens hotel in Wiesen, Switzerland (about an 1 hour from Chur or St Moritz and 20 minutes from Davos). From what I can tell I am going to be there at least until the end of the summer 'season' - October 25th, 2009 and I might just stay one more season until April 2010. We'll see!
This will give me an opportunity to really save some money maybe go on a long overdue vacation...

I'll keep you posted.
Love, Hanna

Intermission

hello my dear friends and readers of this blog.
it's been two months since I returned from England. Time for me to process and evaluate. Time to pray and seek God. And after many 'rounds', where I once again had to learn to let go and put myself completely in the hands of God, to trust Him in the midst of doubts, troubles and uncertainties. But I finally came to a conclusion - it is time for me to take a break. emphasis on break. This is not the end of my missionary activities.
In a way this break or intermission is long overdue, because my finances haven't been doing well ever since I got back from Thailand. I guess I just wasn't ready before. See, I wanted the break to be about more than just the lack of finances cause that would have seemed like plain defeat.
Now I know that I want and need a break. Although it feels embarrasing to admit, fact is that I am downright exhausted - spiritually and emotionally. Which helped me realize more than ever that I can't do this job this calling without the backup of my church and I am not talking about financial support here (which nontheless is always needed and very much appreciated as well).

I don't know excatly how long this intermission while last. Probably somewhere between six months and a year. It also depends on how things pan out with my church.

Now you will want to know what I am going to do during this time.
Well, I am hoping to work - pay off creditcards, save money for future outreaches, mission trips.
As a matter of fact I already got a job offer from a bakery/café in Saas Fee (Valais, Switzerland) and I've got two more job interviews tomorrow and on Friday - both in Switzerland as well.
I also want to spend this time to recharge my batteries, continue to work together with God on defining my vision, finding out more about His plans for my life.
And last but not least I want to renew friendships, spend time with people - family, friends, church and through this figure out things with my church for future missions.

Keep in touch
love, Hanna

back in Mainz

well, it's been pretty much exactly one week since I got back from London. And the plan was to send you an update once sometime this week - the only problem is that my laptop has broke down completely this week... which means that on top of everything else I'll have to look for a new laptop now.
Other than that I'm doing alright - you know, trying to hear from God regarding my next step (or hopefully even steps). Which is not always that simple, both the hearing and the uncertainty part.
so much for today, this is mainly to let you know that I haven't forgotten about you! :-)

only three weeks to go.

WOW! These past 2 months/ 9 weeks have simply flown by and without realizing it my outreach is coming to a close. So weird...
Well, so far I've been having a real great time working here at the ECCP. And I simply love the big city life. I've got to say this is one of the few places in the world that I've been to where I felt right at h0me. Not that I felt particularly astranged or something at the other places. No, I think this is simply because here I am actually living in a city not just a town or village or something. ;-)
Last week one of my best friends, Anna, who also visited me in Thailand came for a 6-day visit which was a lot of fun and you know simply good to have a familiar face around. So inbetween my usual 'duties' here at the Project - coffee bar, women's drop in, counseling - we did some sightseeing. We went to Notting Hill and Portobello Market, Kensington Gardens and Peter Pan, Trafalgar Sq., Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Sq., the Tate Britain Museum, Covent Garden and on Wednesday we had a coffee bar outing to Eastbourne which we joined.

This week will be quite busy as well with a team coming to join us and my book report being due at the end of the week...
talk to you soon (hopefully a little sooner than this time...)

update on finances...

Hi everyone!
I just did a quick numbers check. You know, to see how I am doing financially and from what I can tell so far with the money I received already and the donations I know of that are to come in during these next couple of weeks... I still need about 500.- Euros = $775.-

Which I know is quite a bit and I have to confess it worries me a little... but yes only a little - because I KNOW that my God is so much bigger than this! And He has come through and provided so many times before - going on 5 years full-time ministry!

Well, I'll keep you updated and please pray with me for a once and for all breakthrough in this area!!!
THanks a bunch, love,
Hanna - currently in London, UK

'Trooping of the Colour'

On Saturday I went to Buckingham Palace again... where they were showing the annual parade called 'Trooping of the Colour' in honour of Her Royal Majesty the Queens official birthday. In case you didn't know (I sure didn't) the Queen has two birthdays - an actual birth-day and an offical birthday.

Anyways in this parade there are thousands of troops all in their lovely uniforms of course and hundreds of horses, some canons, then the Queen and other Royals driving a long in a horse-drawn carriage to inspect the troops... and it all ends with the whole Royal Family showing up on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to watch the airborne troops so to say - with some dozen planes of all shapes and sizes. It was amazing.
You know, seeing Queen Elisabeth, Prince Philip, Prince Charles & Camilla, Edward & Sophie of Wessex, the Princes William and Harry... - it was all very surreal, like in a movie or fairytale or something..

1 week down...

11 more to go...
by now I've been to most of the ministries at least once and can start to form a picture of the place/ministry here. Our weekly program looks something like this: Monday and Wednesday we run the coffee bar, which is actually a bit of soup kitchen. On Thursdays we have the women's drop-in. Tuesdays and Fridays are a bit slower for me, since these are the days where the others have their counseling clients... so I help a bit in the office, do some practical work or work on the academical tasks that are required for this Field Assignment/outreach/internship.

Over this last weekend we had really nice weather and I got to play tourist for a little while, see some sights... I started out at Trafalgar Square past Westminster and Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, St.James Park, Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square back to Trafalgar Square. On my way back home in a doubel-decker bus we passed MI6 HQ as seen in 007 The world is not enough... where very early on in the movie James Bond comes shooting out of the side of the building in a speedboat a la Q, only to land on the Thamse and get caught up in a exciting chase...

On Sunday I went to HTB (Holy Trinity Brompton, Nicky Gumbel-Alpha, Tim Hughes) which was great and also the first time I really felt at home in this city. Afterwards I went to the Hyde Park/ Kensington Gardens and saw Peter Pan (bronze statue). :-)
Other than that I spent the afternoon wandering about the Park and even after two hours I had only seen a part of the Park! It's huge!

In the evening I watched the Euro2008 Qualifier Germany-Poland! GO Germany!

next stop: London

well, I arrived here save and sound yesterday morning. Or maybe I should say I arrived at the airport yesterday morning by the time I got to Clapham -which is the part of London where I'm staying it was 3 pm.

I've spent the better part of yesterday afternoon and today to get my bearings a little, unpack, do some shopping...

This morning I attended a prayer meeting the Earl's Court Community Project (ECCP) which ended with a visit to Starbucks. :-)
I also got a tour of the Projects different rooms and facilities.

More on everything later...
In Him,
Hanna

I'm returning to

my beloved Mainz quite unexpectedly today. I had planned to go back at the end of this week. But an opportunity to catch a ride presented itself quite suddenly which I simply could not refuse! ;-)
I'll be in Mainz for about a fortnight and afterwards hopefully Londonbound. More on that later.
love ya,
hanna

once more back in ...

... Altensteig.
I got back here late yesterday afternoon. Two dear friends of mine drove me down with a stopover in Karlsruhe where we met with a third friend to have a late brunch/lunch together and I had a chance of getting a Starbucks coffee, for down here I never know when I get another opportunity.
The next couple of days will be a time to rest and chill and at some point during the next week (hopefully) I'll be having a talk with the base-leadership about my future... you know, to find out where we're all at...
please, pray for that. pray for clear communication, Gods speaking, that we will be able to hear His voice and the voice of His dear Holy Spirit.

Be dearly blessed,
yours Hanna

COLOMBO - SRI LANKA

In Sri Lanka we worked under a pastor/apostle couple Dr Lalith & Dr Hiranti Mendis. We stayed at a camp -which used to be a swamp- about an hours drive from Colombo. The closest towns were Wattala and Ja-Ela.
At the camp we taught in the local DTS, helped out at a 2-day-youth camp (I got to preach again:)) and led a kids camp. We also visited some missionaries who lived about two hours from were we lived to encourage them and to pray for them.

This was all very exciting, though thing that inspired us the most was simply living with these people, hearing their vision and seeing who Doctors Mendis and their church pray and intercede for their nation and through that really take authority in spiritual realm for Sri Lanka.
What's even cooler is to see how this manifests in the physical. Both of the Doctors meet with people in business, in politics, CEOs, managers,... to talk with them, pray with them... now they receive calls from the prime ministers wife asking for prayer before important meetings and decisions she/they have to make!

CHENNAI - INDIA

We only got to spend 12 days in Chennai, which was kind of sad, but still we had a good time there – visiting an AIDS-center, doing beach evangelism, campus-bible-study-groups, speaking at churches and taking part in a citywide worship service.

One of the church services took place in a small village outside Chennai, where we ended up having 6 or 7 house visits afterwards.
So pretty much everyone of us had the opportunity to share a little message and to pray with the tenants some of whom were Christians, others were Muslims or Hindus... and on we went to the next house...

Another quite exciting thing were the Rickshaw rides where at times we squeezed 10, 11 people into one rickshaw! I am telling you, thats where you learn to pray real hard. :-)

MUMBAI - INDIA

Our time in Mumbai began with attending a Joyce Meyer Conference.
As for ministry: We helped out at a Mother Teresa Home, spoke at a school in Asia’s biggest slum, visited different Red-Light-Districts, had intercession in a Muslim neighborhood or at the shrine of a Muslim saint, who in his day performed many 'miracles' (healing of the sick), so that still today many people – especially sick and crippled people pilgrimage to this place to receive healing. It is difficult to put into words the spiritual atmosphere of this place, it was so heavy and oppressing.

We preached in several churches and encouraged the local Christians and missionaries. As much as I liked each of these different ministries – the time we spent in the Red-Light-District touched me the most. Since I had worked with this kind of ministry before and am planning to work more in this milieu in the future, I was curios to see another ministry among these precious ladies. In some ways this area was a lot worse then Thailand, the entire area was basically one big slum, and there was no separation between home and work place. The work place was home and in many cases the family lived there as well.

DELHI - INDIA

We arrived in Delhi at about 2 am on New Year's Day (yes, we spent New Year's Eve on the plane), by the time we were through customs, immigration and baggage claim, had reached our accommodation and were finally in bed it was almost 5 am. Our first ministry was at 11 am that same day, where we were to speak at a church in a slum area.
We spent two weeks in Delhi reaching out to people in slums. Everyday we would walk to or take a public bus (usually a combination of both) for anything between 30 minutes to 2 hours to visit one of Delhi’s many slums. There we would have an evangelistic meeting with a drama, testimony and a message. Afterwards we made house visits, prayed
for people and of course drank the obligatory chai (very sweet tea). We also preached in a church in the middle of the slums.

Chennai - Madras

Hey there,
I am so sorry guys, that I have not been able to keep you posted and updated on all things happening over here. It's been really difficult to get access to the Internet and if we do there is usually only enough time to quickly scan through the emails and to answer the most urgent once.

anyways, we are currently in Chennai (Madras) having a great time with the people and the ministries-
on monday we'll be flying to Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Hope to talk to you soon,

first delhi and now mumbai...

hello everyone...
sorry i haven't been writing anything of late... its just that its been kind of difficult to go online here... india is not as flooded with cyber cafes as thailand is. ;-)
and by now we've been in india for three weeks. first 2 weeks in delhi where we went to a slum every night... some slums we visited twice. it was really shocking to see how these people live. most of time you could hardly call it living... i mean they didn't even have bathrooms... they just made their 'business' wherever it pleased them!
Besides it was very dirty, dusty and cold. Still you couldn't help loving these people... the way they were dealing with their circumsdances... you know no matter how poor they were they still shared the little they had with us.
Mumbai is quite different. It's cleaner, not as dusty and especially warmer. So far we haven't had any real ministry yet for we were blessed to be able to attend a Joyce Meyer Conference with Hillsong and delirious? taking care of the worship! It was truly awesome!
Today is our day off besides we have a birthday in our team - Nik is turning 19!
Tomorrow we'll have a city tour which will be a prayer/intercession tour at the same time.
On wednesday we will meet another team and at the same time get some orientation for our work among the "neighbours" our code word for the muslims. thursday will be more prayer and intercession - this time directly in the muslim areas. Friday we'll be going to the Mother Theresa Home here in Mumbai to do some mercy ministry there. Saturday we'll be visiting the Red light district and on Sunday we'll be taking part in a church service. so far our ministry for this week.

please, continue to pray for my finances. as of now i am completely broke again. i can only hope that there has been some money coming into my ywam account - i just sent an email to the base to find that out. gosh, i really need a breakthrough in this! And soon!

Blessings and Love,
yours faithfully,
Hanna
